Flora Lee Shaw Clampitt

Flora Lee (Shaw) Clampitt died peacefully after a brief illness on March 3, 2023, at the age of 97 in Venice, Florida.  Flo was born on May 2, 1925, to parents of James and Virgie (Hughes) Shaw in New Castle, Indiana. She was married to her high school sweetheart Joseph Clampitt for 68 years before his death in 2011.  Together they raised two children Sheryl and Terrell Clampitt, wife Vickie. Four grandchildren Trachele Hartman husband Brian, Brian Carter, Jeanna King husband Danny, and Jennifer Carter husband Roger Mayerson.  Seven great-grandchildren Catherine Carter McCann husband Brian, Aaron Carter, Blake Carter, Megan Carter, Madison Hartman, McKenzie Hartman, and Emma Jo Hartman. She leaves two sisters and their family Dorothy Shaw Brewer and Betty Shaw Griffey.

Flo’s career followed an interesting path. She owned a Hair styling business, worked as a Real Estate Broker in New Castle, co-op Farming on their land in Westwood, built and remodeled several homes with her husband, and was an antique furniture collector and furniture refinisher. Flo loved and supported The First Christian Church in New Castle, Indiana, an active member of the Elks Ladies Auxiliary, Shirley Alpha Club, The New Castle Eastern Star, and Past Worthy Matron of the Greensboro Order of the Eastern Star. Past president of the 12th district order of the Eastern Star, Henry County Shrine Club, Flo loved country living which afforded her the pleasure of flower and vegetable gardening. She and her husband Joe collected and toured with the Antique Auto Club.  Joe and Flo were best known for building a log cabin in Westwood from the abandoned remnants at the Mt Lawn racetrack.
